Sam I Am is 1! A Dr. Seuss-themed 1st birthday party

For Sam's 1st birthday I had so much fun with the Dr. Seuss theme! I absolutely LOVE Dr. Seuss, and since the party was the day after Dr. Seuss' b-day, the theme was highly appropriate for our little Sam I am.

I found this idea on pinterest, I later labeled them Thing 1, Thing 2 and Thing3!

I did not use this marshmallow pop idea because it didn't smush evenly, but it was tasty!

I frosted and decorated the cake seconds before bringing it out, and wasn't worried...he was about to make a mess out of it anyway, right?

I love this child!

Our little family!

Some of Sam's friends!

I had this book out for friends to sign.

I covered a box with wrapping paper to prop up the cupcakes. I made the cupcake decorations by copying and pasting pics of book covers off the net onto word, and making them all tiny. Then I taped them to toothpicks.
This is the first time I've ever tried to make frosting from scratch, so tasty!

These green eggs were so easy! I melted white chocolate and dropped it in spoonfuls onto waxed paper, put an M & M on each one, and let them cool. Yum!

Easy marshmallow pops! Dipped in melted candy and then in sprinkles.

Yertle the turtles! Pretzel, rollo, pecan, heavenly!

Bad pic of a fun Swedish Fish in blue jello. These were awesome..until they melted. Then they looked like little red tongues, eww.

Strawberry lemonade Pik Ink Yink Drink and Beezlenut Splash

I decorated the house with books, this was a tribute to P.D. Eastman shelf, no one complained about the non-Seuss-ness of it :)

The adults need a game too!

The birthday boy had so much fun!!!

I need to get pics from my Dad, he took all the active shots of the games and all, I mostly took ones after the fact, but I wanted to share! :)

St.Patrick's Day Crafts

I love St. Patrick's Day, because I'm 1/4 Irish, and I love Jesus! Here are some fun things I found digging for ideas to use with my preschool-aged girls for this week. Enjoy!
A great poem
First is God the Father, Then Jesus, His only Son. With the Holy Spirit,
Together, they are Three In One.
(don't know where I came across this originally, sorry!)
Trinity song from ABC Jesus loves me:
 (Tune of "Are you Sleeping?")
God the Father, God the Father
God the Son, God the Son
God the Holy Spirit, God the Holy Spirit
Three in One, Three in One. has some fun Trinity and St. Patrick art ideas:
(bell pepper prints)
also, a free shamrock Trinity printable:

Why the clover?According to DLTKSaint Patrick used a shamrock to explain about God.  The shamrock, which looks like clover, has three leaves on each stem.  Saint Patrick told the people that the shamrock was like the idea of the Trinity – that in the one God there are three divine beings:  the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Super cute handprint craft from B.inspired.mama!

Great St. Patrick's Day Story Bag idea, as well as some great history from rhythm of the home
Great File Folder Games here at File Folder Fun

Super cute printables here craftionary!!!

And I leave you with an Irish Blessing:

The Butterfly Effect...Metamorphosis, that is...

I LOVE teaching the life cycle of a butterfly. It is absolutely darling to hear a 2-year-old pronounce "metamorphosis" with authority, and then act out the egg hatching into a caterpillar, wrapping into a chrysalis, and then emerging as a butterfly and flying away.

We found four teeny little caterpillars on a bush and made a new home for them in a vase containing sticks and leaves, covered with some tulle netting. When my husband picked up some fresh leaves for them, he brought home a 5th caterpillar. When we brought some more leaves we didn't see any caterpillars... but a couple days later a teensy little guy appeared, bringing the total to seven! Can you see how this could become the never-ending science project?

This little one was the last to turn into a chrysalis. It was so exciting to watch with the girls!

There he goes shedding his caterpillar-ness!

Our first butterfly!

She's testing out her new wings :)

This butterfly walked onto m hand before she flew away! My 4-year-old begged to let the next one walk on her hand.

Butterfly #2!

(Yes, my girls were really dressed like that when it emerged...)

The release party!

She got her wish!!!
